JEWS' WAR WORK UPHELD.
Henry Hyman Says Their Record is a Sufficient Reply to Ford.
Special to The New York Times.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., May 31.- The war work of the Jew is the best
answer to the attacks of Henry Ford, said Henry Hyman, Grand
Secretary of the Independent Order of the Free Sons of Israel, at
that body's triennial national convention here this afternoon. Mr.
Hyman is author of the war work supplement of the order.
"In the libraries of the world, whether you seek in London, Paris,
Rome or New York," said the speaker, "there are but two official war
work volumes of fraternal orders, one is that of the Knights of
Columbus, the other belongs to the Free Sons of Israel. Neither of
these organizations kept its benefactions within the limits of its
religious household. The fact that a man wore the uniform of the
United States or the fact that the United States was engaged on some
great war work movement was enough to enlist the best endeavors of
both national organizations."
The convention approved a plan to erect in some city to be designated
a community welfare house, to cost $250,000, for the whole population
in the community where it is built.
