  • The Jewish Press - "Time To Leave The 1920's Behind Us"
    by Yosef Cohen
The Jewish people were silent during the early 1920's when anti-Semitism was spawned by Henry Ford in his Dearborn Independent newspaper. Ford's articles inspired a young Adolf Hitler and helped pave the road to the Holocaust. A compilation of Ford's articles was later published in book form, and to this day The International Jew - The World's Foremost Problem continues to inculcate hatred of Jews.

From the end of World War II until five years ago the Holocaust was primarily viewed as the greatest murder in history. And indeed it was. But since the spring of 1996 it has become ever more apparent that the Holocaust was also the greatest robbery in history. The Nazi-era witnessed the direct and indirect theft of well over $150 billion of tangible assets of victims of Nazi persecution.

  • A Fund Is Planned By U.S. Companies For Nazis' Victims
    April 29, 2000, Saturday
By JOSEPH KAHN (NYT); Foreign Desk
    The New York Times
Several American companies that had factories in Nazi Germany will set up fund under auspices of US Chamber of Commerce to aid people who suffered persecution under Hitler; aim is at least in part to head off lawsuits; Clinton administration has pressed for fund to help aging survivors; Deputy Sec Stuart Eizenstat comments; at least 50 American companies operated factories in Nazi Germany; most were nationalized after 1941, but were returned just after war; some companies received dividends or benefited from forced labor...

Ford, General Motors, Exxon-Mobil and Kodak are among a growing number of American multinationals that say they have found evidence that their subsidiaries used forced labor during those years.

  • BBC News | Americas | US ponders Nazi slave compensation
The United States Congress has begun considering a bill which would allow people used as forced labour by companies in Nazi Germany to sue firms in the American courts. The bill would extend the statute of limitations, so that compensation claims which expired in 1993 would be valid until 2010, and give the courts - rather than the State Department - power to consider the cases.
If the bill is approved, German companies like Volkswagen and Siemens which used slave labour could be ordered to pay out billions of dollars. American companies like Ford have also been accused of using slave labour in their factories in Germany before the outbreak of war.

A Russian-born Belgian woman is suing the American car manufacturer, Ford, for a share of the profits she alleges it made from slave labour during the Nazi period in Germany. The woman, Elsa Iwanowa, was abducted from Russia as a teenager and forced to work for the Nazi war machine at Ford's German subsidiary in Cologne.

  • BBC News | Americas | Ford 'profited from Nazi slave labour'
The Ford Motor Company is facing legal action in the United States for allegedly making a profit from its self-confessed use of slave labour during World War II. Its factory in Germany produced trucks for the Nazi war effort.
Among them was Ilse Ivanova, now 72 years old. She was taken from her home at the age of 16 and forced to work in harsh conditions. "The work was extremely hard and I am still traumatised today," she said. "The foreman was like a wild animal. He pushed us about. He wore a swastika on his uniform."

BALDUR VON SCHIRACH (Defendant):
re: Henry Ford

23 May 46

VON SCHIRACH: I shall only say in one sentence that these were works which had no definite anti-Semitic tendencies, but through which anti-Semitism was drawn like a red thread. The decisive anti-Semitic book which I read at that time and the book which influenced my comrades...

DR. SAUTER: Please . . .

VON SCHIRACH: . . . was Henry Ford's book, The International Jew; I read it and became anti-Semitic. In those days this book made such a deep impression on my friends and myself because we saw in Henry Ford the representative of success, also the exponent of a progressive social policy. In the poverty-stricken and wretched Germany of the time, youth looked toward America, and apart from the great benefactor, Herbert Hoover, it was Henry Ford who to us represented America.
